Best Universities To Study Law In Malaysia 2022

“Law school taught me one thing: how to take two situations that are exactly the same and show how they are different.”

Hart Pomerantz, Canadian lawyer & television personality

What exactly is law?

It is a set of rules created and enforced to regulate the behavior of our society. Law exists as a guideline of acceptable and unacceptable actions and behaviors. Without the law, the world will become an uncontrollable place filled with crime.

Every country has a legal system, hence the need for lawyers to keep society functioning. As a lawyer, you will represent individual clients, companies, or government agencies in legal proceedings; give advice on legal transactions and matters; as well as collect and analyze legal documents.

Law is one of the most popular subjects among international students as there are plenty of industries and companies around the world that are in need of lawyers.

The catch, however, is studying law in Malaysia.

The reason is simple: law courses in Malaysia are cheaper, but with similar international standards.

Let’s dive deeper.

You Only Need 3 to 4 Years to Study Law In Malaysia

A typical Bachelor of Law in Malaysia takes 3 to 4 years, depending on whether you’re including a professional year, in which the Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) exam is included in the curriculum.

The CLP is required for you to qualify for chambering in Malaysia, or a nine-month practical training under the guidance of a senior lawyer.

Once you complete your chambering, you’re a full-fledged lawyer ready to bring justice!

Top 3 Skills Of The Best Lawyer

1) You’re a logical thinker

Rationale and consistency are your best friends. In court, you’re expected to present consistent, accurate, and credible facts and evidence if you want to win your case. Besides, if you’re known among your friends as the one who keeps their emotions under control, you’re pretty much made for the job – rational thinking can save your case and client!

2) You excel in oral communication

To study law in Malaysia, language and speaking skills can make or break your success. You must be a fluent speaker to communicate with your clients and to deliver a persuasive message clearly and concisely. The last thing you’d want to happen is the judge misunderstanding your point!

3) You’re a good researcher

Science is not the only industry that needs research! Learning law in Malaysia requires you to dig into past cases, research legal concepts, and prepare your facts to be presented in the court. You must also be able to break down complex information efficiently and effectively.

Choosing A Specific Area Of Law Practice

Law is a broad field with plenty of areas to specialize in.

You don’t have to decide now, but it is always good practice to start reading about them to gain a better understanding. This way, you will be clear with your directions and goals when you study law in Malaysia. Some areas that you can look into are:

  • Business law
  • Advertising law
  • Criminal law
  • Constitutional law
  • Family law

Studying Law In Malaysia Costs Way Less

Ask any international student studying law in Malaysia, and they’d tell you that law programs in Malaysia are so much more affordable than their UK counterparts.

And most importantly, you can also get your law degree from the United Kingdom while studying in Malaysia with a fraction of the cost.

The price range of a law program in Malaysia is from RM5,000 to RM50,000 in public universities, whereas you’ll need to pay RM35,000 to RM 100,000 in private universities.

High Job Opportunities In Law Practice

Do you know that a skilled attorney can make up to RM20,000 a month?

I know, tempting.

But like all jobs, we must start somewhere.

An attorney and associate attorney can earn up to RM4,000 a month. Once you’re well-versed and ready to take your passion to a higher level, a law firm partner can earn up to RM10,000 a month.

Of course, how much you earn ultimately depends on your skills, your experience, as well as the time you’ve spent in the industry as a senior law practitioner.

Venturing into law gives you plenty of job opportunities right after graduation. You can choose from these options below:

  • Academia
  • Legal Writer
  • Solicitor
  • Forensic Investigator
  • Criminal Investigator
  • Company Secretarial
  • Researcher
  • Corporate Legal Advisor
  • Journalist

If none of them are what you’re searching for, there are still opportunities to explore besides these few positions!

If you’re sure about your pathway from the start, it’s never too early for you to take the foundation program.

Why India Should Be On Your Study Abroad List 2022

Why India Should Be On Your Study Abroad List 2022

Studying in India is not like what you’d expect.

You’ve heard a lot about India, but do you know that the country also has a diverse and vast educational system? While it is normal for international students to find living in India challenging, it can be a rewarding experience to live and study in there.

Here’s what you should know about life in India as an international student.

You’re Learning More Than Ever In India, Even Outside The Classroom

India is home to a millennia-old civilization and the world’s oldest religion, Hinduism.

Studying in India provides a thrilling learning experience if you enjoy exploring the cultures and traditions of a religiously diverse country. According to Pew Research Center’s 5 facts about religion in India, “India is a religiously pluralistic and multiethnic democracy – the largest in the world.”

You’ll expand your horizons and gain a cross-cultural understanding, which makes you an open-minded candidate that many hiring companies look for.

Plus, you can be the first among your friends to say “I’ve visited the Taj Mahal in person!”

India Has A Rapidly Expanding Educational System

Top institutions in India are on par with American colleges.

India’s higher education is growing quickly. Out of more than 1,000 accredited schools, 50 of them have international recognition. You will find plenty of high-quality engineering schools too, so engineer wannabes can apply to study in India.

Since India’s independence from the UK in 1948, English is widely used as a medium of communication besides Hindi. You will find local students speaking fluent English. Adjusting to studying in India will be a breeze!

Below is a breakdown of a typical higher education pathway in India:

  • Bachelor’s degree – 3 to 5 years (depending on program)
  • Master’s degree – 1 year (2 years for medical students)
  • PhD – 3 to 5 years

Living In India Costs Lesser Than You Think

Living in India is surprisingly cheap.

In fact, the living cost is generally lower than the US and most European countries, as well as Asian study abroad destinations (China, Japan, South Korea).

You only need to spend approximately $1,000 to $1,500 a month, and this includes rent!

Foodies will also love food-hunting in India. There’s so many varieties to choose from, you can’t decide where to start! Markets and street vendors in the city have some of the most underrated and equally delicious local cuisines. From filling meals like biryani, chole batura, and dosa, to street snacks like samosa and pani puri, you’ll never get enough of Indian food!

Monthly rent in India costs about $250 to $300, transport pass only costs about $30 per month; and you only need $20 for groceries!

Low Tuition Fees, Plenty Of Scholarships

Tuition fees in Indian universities are usually between $3,300 and $8,000 per year depending on your program.

And the cherry on top: scholarships are plentiful in Indian institutions!

This is a move made by the Indian government to recruit more international students. The most notable scholarship is the prestigious Study in India Scholarship. You are eligible to receive up to $3,500 per year. The scholarship covers tuition fees, room and boarding, as well as canteen costs.

Getting Your Indian Student Visa Sorted

To be eligible for a student visa in India, you must first be accepted into a recognized higher educational institution. If you are a citizen of Bhutan, Nepal, or the Maldives, you will be exempt from a student visa. The cost of a student visa varies based on the country you’re from.

Some of the required documents are:

  • Passport with an expiry date that is more than 180 days
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • A copy of your passport
  • Proof of your residential details while you’re staying in India
  • Application form
  • Letter of admission from your university
  • Financial proof that you are able to cover your expenses in India

Applying for an Indian student visa is actually pretty simple as long as you have all your documents ready. Check out the steps below:

    1. Enroll at a recognized university in India, receive a letter of admission, and pay the enrollment fees (if any).
    2. Complete the visa application form. You can find it online. An incomplete form will be rejected.
    3. Attach your passport-sized photograph to the online form.
    4. Make an e-payment to the Indian authorities.
    5. Submit your application. Be sure to proofread all your details before you hit send!
    6. Print a copy of your application. This is an important step!
    7. Book an appointment with an Indian visa application center (IVAC). You must bring all the required documents with you.
    8. Congratulations! Your application is a success and your visa will be mailed to you. You can also collect it personally from the IVAC.

If you’re rejected, fret not! Chances are, you either missed out a document or detail in your application form; didn’t upload your photo; didn’t include proof of funds; or have a passport that will expire within 180 days.

You just have to thoroughly check all your details and documents and resubmit your application.

Or.. Leave it to Eduloco and we’ll get it sorted out for you!

You will receive a decision within two weeks of submission, so hold on tight and hope for the best!

Working In India As An International Student

Unfortunately, you cannot work while studying in India.

This may be a bummer to some, but on the positive side, that means you have more time to focus on your studies as well as explore the beautiful India!

You must ensure that you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees, accommodation, transportation, food, and other essentials throughout your stay.

India is an underrated place to study abroad. While others are looking into ‘mainstream’ places to study, this land of diverse culture and religions gets overlooked although it offers some of the best educational systems in the world!

If India is not on your radar, you’re totally missing out!

Roblox Takes Education In Metaverse A Step Further: Making It Reality

Roblox Takes Education In Metaverse A Step Further: Making It Reality

KUALA LUMPUR, 22.12.2021 – Gaming company Roblox has taken the world by storm. With over 40 million active users on the platform daily, the online game platform has gained mainstream attention in 2021. Which begs the question, why exactly is it so popular?

Roblox was originally developed as a game creation system by Roblox Corporation. It allows users to program and create their own games where players can socialize and interact in a virtual 3D world. However, what really sets it apart from other games is how it allows users to monetize their games – ranging from dressing up games to pet simulators, first-person shooting games, or their own version of Squid Game.

Its feature that allowed for players to connect and interact online lead to having over 20 million games published on the platform. Additionally, its functionality in allowing users to create avatars of themselves that can be navigated throughout the entire Roblox universe is consistent with the goal of the ‘Metaverse’. Although still an early concept of the virtual world, this makes the game company one of the earliest leaders to play a major role in the emergence of the Metaverse.

Hence, expanding to education in metaverse is key to making that happen.

“There is a huge opportunity to leverage on the engagement and motivation that students have for interacting with Roblox,” Rebecca Kantar said, Head of Education of the Roblox Community Fund.

“We’re ready to find and reward developers and organizations who can figure out how to really lean into our great physics, immersive 3D capabilities, and multiplayer experiences to teach in a deeper way,” she said.

This could also lead to the creation of virtual classrooms that take place within the Roblox universe, as well as entirely new ways of teaching students how to read, learn, and collaborate real-time on virtual science experiments.

A student learning education in metaverse.

The new Roblox Community Fund announced the allocation of a 10 million fund to support the creation of online education in the Metaverse to utilize the platform’s unique way of letting users interact, socialize, and create their own virtual world.

“For now, we plan to use Roblox Studio as a computer science educational tool while also encouraging the development of curricular materials for topics that can be taught in immersive and interactive 3D environments,” Kantar said.

The company’s focus lies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. One of the fund’s first initiative is their collaboration with Project Lead The Way (PLTW).

An Indianapolis-based nonprofit that provides training for hands-on STEM education to US schools, PLTW plans to expand its existing module for game design and development in Roblox Studio. Furthermore, the organization will also work with Roblox developers to create a new “in-Roblox” world where users can explore careers in Computer Science, Engineering, and Biomedical Science.

“Students no longer need to be tethered to a physical classroom to learn,” said Vince Bertram, president and CEO of Project Lead The Way. “By connecting the platform with leading experts in education, we believe Roblox and PLTW are on course to transform the way students learn in the metaverse.”

As Kantar puts it, education in the metaverse might not be so far away.

“Roblox Education will be a self-sustaining ecosystem, where education organizations are constantly building and releasing new content on Roblox,” she stated. “Increasingly, we expect this to be organic growth, where everyone is teaching and learning in the metaverse.”

Education has come a long way. From its transition to online learning, advancing virtual and augmented reality to accelerate online classes, and creating virtual study abroad experiences, the face of education has drastically shifted from its roots ten years ago.

Last Minute Gift Ideas For Your Christmas Party 2021

Last Minute Gift Ideas For Your Christmas Party 2021

Ever dread the inevitable Christmas party because you hate being a Secret Santa?

Yep, me too.

As a kid, I used to look forward to unwrapping my gifts (I tear the wrappers apart, to be exact). But as a fully-grown adult with multiple Christmas events to attend, I actually have no clue as to what to get for my friends!

And to be honest, I personally thought I was the worst Secret Santa.

It wasn’t until three years ago that I finally had my breakthrough..

My friends and I gathered around the living room for our yearly gift exchange tradition. Underneath the brightly lit Christmas tree were gifts wrapped with colorful papers and ribbons.

The pile, however, is missing a gift from a particular Secret Santa – me.

As everyone opened their gifts (mine was a pair of socks), I sat beside my best friend and told her that I got her something different. Instead of handing her a gift, I told her to check her email.

Her eyes widened with surprise as she read the subject line:

A donation to UNICEF has been made in your name.

Tears brimmed in her eyes as she hugged me tightly.

“Thank you, this is the best gift I’ve ever received.”

That’s when I realized – gifting doesn’t have to be difficult.

All you have to do is gift from the heart – cliché, I know. But wait until you see the glow in someone’s face when your gift is spot-on!

Heartwarming stories aside, I know exactly what you’re here for: Gift ideas.

Let’s cut to the chase.

Perfect Last Minute Christmas Party Gifts

1) Christmas Party? More Like Pajama Party!

Pajamas as Christmas party gift. Image source: Pexels

We all need a good sleep after a busy Christmas party.

Pajamas may sound like a boring gift, but homebodies will appreciate them. Trust me, I’m a homebody too.

I have a collection of pajamas gifted by my friends and I LOVE wearing them, especially during weekends!

Fleece pajamas are best for cold rooms, while cotton ones are breathable and suitable for all weathers. You can find them on Amazon.

2) Coffee Lovers Need Their Fix – Even During A Christmas Party

There is no such thing as too much coffee.

University students and working adults need coffee to energize their post-Christmas party week. A good cup of coffee, however, is enough to keep you up and running on full power!

Coffee is also a unisex gift in case you don’t know who you’re getting it for.

Coffee maker set as Christmas party gift. Image source: Amazon

There are plenty of options for you to choose from based on your budget. If you’re feeling generous, you can get a pour over coffee set. Your coffee-loving friend will enjoy every process of making themselves a cuppa. If you’re on a tight budget, you can get a pack of coffee beans or grounds. They’re less expensive and equally enjoyable!

3) Protect Your Friends From Covid-19 With A Hygiene Kit

Kits with sanitizers, sanitary wipes, and disposable/cloth face masks are everywhere lately!

Your buddy will appreciate the sincerity in your gift – it shows that you care. They come in a variety of designs, but some shops allow you to customize them with cute, funky, or minimalist designs. So, you can pick a gift AND have fun in the process!

Some common options are:

4) Scented Candles For The Best Self-Pampering Sesh

A Christmas party is incomplete if there isn’t a scented candle safely tucked among the gifts.

Scented candles have such a great way of elevating the mood of the entire room. They come in a large variety of scents with different purposes: Lavender for relaxation; chamomile for better sleep; lemongrass for the calming of nerves, and more!

I highly suggest going to the store to personally pick a candle for your friend instead of ordering online. It’s super fun to smell the different scents before you choose the perfect gift. Who knows, you might buy one for yourself too!

Scented candles as Christmas party gift.

Image source: Bath and Body Works

Bath and Body Works have tons of candles with plenty of interesting names. Frozen Lake, Midnight Blue Citrus, Champagne Toast, A Thousand Wishes, Open Sky – your friend will be thrilled to find out what they smell like!

5) End A Christmas Party With A Good Skincare Routine

Women and men deserve self-care in the form of skincare.

Using skincare that works can improve skin complexion and boost confidence. If your friend is hesitant to commit to full-sized tubes of products that may or may not work on them, trial kits are the best way for them to try different ones before going all out.

Products with aloe vera, green tea, or cucumber usually won’t go wrong, unless the user is allergic to the ingredients or have sensitive skin. To know more about skin types, you can check out our skincare article too!

Sephora has plenty of skincare products to choose from. You can find them here.

If they do have allergies or are picky users, it is best to get a gift card instead. This way, they can choose the products themselves!

6) Mugs With Witty Quotes For The Humorous Buddy

We can never get enough of mugs, especially when they come with witty quotes and pictures!

Christmas party gift as a mug. Image source: Typo

I usually get my mugs from Typo. They have mugs with totally relatable quotes. You’ll get what I mean when you visit their outlets or their online shop!

7) Laptop sleeve

Now that most of us are back to university or work, and chances are, they’d need to bring their laptop around at some point. A laptop sleeve can provide great convenience, especially when your friend is clumsy. I’ve dropped my laptop once, and it was disastrous. *sobs*

Laptop sleeves now come with all sorts of features – waterproof, cut resistant, lightweight – some even have pockets so you can stuff all your essentials in!

You can find them on:

8) Donate To A Good Cause In The Name Of The Recipient

Your donation can help greatly, especially animal shelters, underprivileged children, the disabled, and more.

Instead of getting a physical gift that will eventually wear off, you can also donate the allocated gift budget to a meaningful cause. Your friend will be touched by the gesture, adding more warmth to the special Christmas party. You can donate to some of these organizations:

There you have it! I hope you get some useful inspo from this list! In the meantime, here’s some lifestyle articles to explore!

How NFT & Metaverse Will Accelerate Virtual Education

How NFT & Metaverse Will Accelerate Virtual Education

KUALA LUMPUR, 14.12.2021 – The future of higher education is evolving with the introduction to NFT, or non-fungible token, and metaverse.

Non-fungible token, or NFT is a distinctive, digitized, and encrypted token fabricated and stored using blockchain technology. The rarity and originality of the digital assets determine how valuable NFTs are.

Some key characteristics of NFT are:

  • Every NFT is different
  • NFTs are not replaceable with other tokens
  • An NFT is more valuable if it is scarce

The existence of NFT is a game changer to the artistic integrity of artists who are mainly based online. This places their artwork at risk of mass distribution without the artist’s permission. Now, their authentic digital assets can be free of copyright infringement because they can price, distribute, and allow customers to buy and own the digital asset.

Digital art as a digital collectible on NFT marketplace. Image source: Pexels

Artists, filmmakers, photographers, game developers, and fashion designers sell their work on the NFT marketplace. They potentially earn up to millions of dollars in crypto-currency selling digital collectibles of their own works.

Now, NFT is branching out to higher education, where students, educators, and institutions can use NFTs for the betterment of the industry.

Evidence Of Lifelong Learning

With NFT, a student’s learning moments can now be captured, stored, and used as ‘experiential’ evidence. This will prove that a person has indeed experienced the hands-on aspects of a course and not just have high academic grades.

This can include the first time a salesman closed a deal, the first surgery of a surgeon, a pilot’s initial flight, and more. These learning moments can be crucial to companies that want to make sure the people they’re hiring are as skilled and experienced as they claim to be.

Micro-credentials For Transparency

Certificates are issued as an indicator of a student’s skills in a particular area. However, it is getting increasingly complex to verify one’s skills with the creation of false credentials.

Higher education institutions can issue certificates as NFTs. This simplifies the process of validation as all diplomas, degrees, and PhDs can be issued by universities and stored by students in a digital space to be used as an educational profile.

Smooth Transition To Showcase Transcripts & Records

Up until today, the most certain way to validate one’s educational history and qualifications is by contacting the institution that gave out the credentials.

For instance, high school seniors in the United States must pay the fees to have their test scores sent to the college they are applying for. Some employees must contact their alma mater for their employers to verify their college transcripts.

This method will soon be obsolete, as NFT can make it a hassle-free transition. Everything in a students’ records – grades, achievement, transcripts – will be fully owned by them in the form of a credible educational profile token.

Content Creators Get The Credits & Royalty Fees They Deserve

Educators can create and sell educational content to universities through the form of NFT. This allows them to receive the royalty they deserve.

For example, a textbook author will only receive the profit from their first sale. NFT allows them to add in an option that includes royalties from secondary sales.

Mark Cuban, investor of NFT platforms and a judge on Shark Tank (American business TV show) felt that NFT’s best application is on textbooks.

“They allow digital textbooks to be easily resold but more importantly they allow publishers and authors to collect royalties for every resale. Forever,” Cuban said.

The metaverse has a lot of potential in the higher education industry as well. ‘Metaverse’ is a virtual world that users can shop, socialize, and participate in leisure activities using their avatars. As metaverse makes its way into education, students will have a cyber-physical campus experience.

Some of the advantages of metaverse in education are:

  • Accelerates online delivery of courses
  • Allows international students and educators to meet virtually
  • Virtual classes and campus activities

You can read more about the advantages of metaverse in education on our website.

In the next few decades, NFT and metaverse will be no stranger to the education industry. What’s left is how fast they will be integrated to universities worldwide.

  • Excellent place to settle down

Let’s be real about your plans – you want to study in the UK to have a stable career after graduation; get a Permanent Residence; and *cough* meet your forever person *cough* and settle down.

Jokes aside, the UK is one of the best new homes for international students due to its economic stability and the usage of English as the global language.

Conditional vs Unconditional Offer Letter. Which Is Better?

Actually, there’s no need to favor one offer letter over the other.

Rather than focusing on which is better, it is best to understand the differences so you can prepare for the next steps.

An unconditional offer letter simply means that you’ve been accepted by the university. All you have to do next is pay the fees and wait for your Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter!

You will only receive a conditional offer letter if you have not met all the requirements stated by the university. But don’t worry – it will revert to an unconditional offer letter once you’ve fulfilled the requirements, such as submitting any missing documents and clarifying your qualifications.

You can also check out our article about US offer letters.

Responding To The Offer Letter

You can decide to accept or decline the unconditional offer letter that is usually offered through email.

It is best to give your answer within 14 days of receiving the letter.

Before you make the ultimate decision, be sure to go through the letter as there may be important notice by the university. You can compare the benefits of the university to other universities that you’ve applied; accept or decline the offer; or postpone your enrollment for up to a year with valid reasons. (P/s: Waiting for your bestie to enroll with you is NOT a valid reason!)

If your heart is set on the university, then you can proceed to pay the fees and get ready for an exciting new chapter of your life!

There are a few reasons that may lead you a conditional offer letter:

  • You did not pass certain courses with minimum scores
  • You need a higher English test score
  • A reference letter is needed
  • You need a GMAT/GRE result (for business schools)
  • Some documents are missing, such as your transcripts

You just need to follow the instructions by the university to fulfil the requirements, and you’ll be back on track!

Or, as an alternative…you could let Eduloco do the heavy weightlifting instead?

Advantages Of Metaverse In The Future Of Education

Advantages Of Metaverse In The Future Of Education

KUALA LUMPUR, 6.12.2021 – ‘Metaverse’, the brand-new concept that Facebook was recently named after. Does it have any function to its name? Or is it just a headline to gawk over until the next new scoop comes in?

A combination of several technological elements – including virtual and augmented reality, Metaverse provides a digital space where users can come together to interact, play, or live within a digital environment. This unique space has already existed in online games such as Roblox and Fortnite. As of late, it has expanded to cover one of the most essential industries – education.

The advantages of metaverse are extending to education, where active class participation can be enhanced through promising new technology.

The virtual spaces can exist in the forms of 3D environments or immersive virtual reality (VR).

The metaverse term was popularized by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg when he rebranded the name of his company to Meta.

In regards to the growing popularity of metaverse, he said, “This may sound like science fiction, but we’re starting to see a lot of these technologies come together.”

He added: “In the next 5 to 10 years, a lot of this is going to be mainstream. When it’s complete, our physical reality will merge with the digital universe.”

As a common trait in games such as Minecraft and Fortnite where players can create their own virtual worlds, the shared virtual space in metaverse is now seen as a promising new platform for the future of education and learning.

With the Covid-19 pandemic causing the education sector to take a huge hit – which saw 91% of the world’s student population suffering from a disrupted education – it had led to the quick rise of online education as a digital way of teaching and learning.

To push digitized education to greater heights, metaverse is able to merge technologies that can help accelerate online delivery through creative and modern solutions.

The pandemic had widened the learning gap among students, but blended learning has proved to be effective, especially in remote learning where students only get to meet their peers and teachers through the Zoom application.

For example, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) offered its students a 60:40 ratio of real-time Zoom classes and pre-recorded lessons. The combined format received positive evaluations from students.

Kwang Hyung Lee, President of KAIST mentioned that “students were satisfied with the real-time classes in which they could interact face to face with professors.”

Other advantages of metaverse include creating new experiences that can go beyond online education itself.

Virtual campus visits will be highly possible, allowing universities to disrupt the global barrier that separates students and educators from different parts of the world. Students and parents will no longer need to drive long hours to view the campus, conveniently relying on the virtual space in Metaverse instead.

For example, the opening of the Kenya-KAIST virtual campus 60km from the capital city Nairobi in September 2023 will allow the institution to extend their reach across continents, bringing students together in a ‘metaverse’ without them leaving their home country.

“It will reduce the need for many students and faculty to make the long commute from the capital to the campus. Although students are expected to live on campus, they will probably engage in other activities in Nairobi and want to take classes wherever they are,’ Lee added.

As the concept of metaverse in gaming is nothing new, transitioning to virtual spaces in education can be a smooth process.

While hands-on subjects may need a few more years to transition into metaverse, the first few applications into education will most likely be in the forms of virtual campus activities, 3D simulations, and gamified activities.

One thing that’s for sure, that metaverse is the door to the future of education.

About Offer Letters & Getting Accepted: Enrolling Into A US University

About Offer Letters & Getting Accepted: Enrolling Into A US University

There’s a plethora of complex emotions when it comes your study abroad application: excitement; anxiousness; self-doubt; confusion; frustration; and more.

But believe me, it gets worse when offer letters are involved, especially in the United States.

When you apply to a US university and the odds seem to be in your favor, you will either receive a conditional or unconditional offer letter.

As the name implies, a Conditional offer letter requires certain conditions to be met in order to get your admission confirmed by the university.

An Unconditional offer letter simply means you’ve met the entry requirements and you have a spot in the university!

However, students still come to our counsellors with the same question:

“How do I tell apart the two different offer letters issued by US universities?”

Let’s dive deeper into the topic to clear the confusion once and for all.

Conditional Offer Letters Require Specific Documents

These documents may include certain grades or test scores. They vary depending on the requirements of each institution and student.

Universities will only issue conditional offer letters if there are documents pending from your side, such as a passport copy, English test score, semester mark sheet, and more. You will receive the admission notice once your documents are complete and payment has been made to the university.

Conditional offer letters may affect your student visa procedure because certain requirements must be completed before you enter the US. Always ensure that the information you submit is complete and accurate. Double-checking your documents won’t hurt!

Carefully Check The Details Of Unconditional Offer Letters

Getting an unconditional offer letter means good news.

But don’t let your excitement override logic.

Check the offer carefully. Despite meeting the academic requirements, you may still need to provide proof of your results or meet certain financial requirements.

Besides, accepting the offer means you’re committing to attend the university. You can no longer make an insurance choice.

In short, no more Plan Bs.

Unconditional offer letters are normally issued to students who have met the entrance requirements and are already accepted by the university.

You will receive an unconditional offer letter by the university once you submit the complete documents and have paid the fees. It is important to remember that this letter is required for student loan applications.

To Get Accepted, Know What The University Wants

Offer letters aside, let’s talk about getting into the university that you’ve been eyeing for since you were a high schooler.

Did you know that universities have specific requirements that they look for in potential students before they accept an application? Your determination is admirable, but you’ll need more than that to get accepted into your dream university.

To increase your chances of getting accepted, your personal essay and interview with the university matter. You should pinpoint your strengths, experience, and skills, such as:

  • Academic and non-academic achievements
  • Experience and skills to succeed in the program and at the university
  • How you showcase your enthusiasm in the subject area
  • What your references say about you

I Got My Offer Letter. What Next?

1) Make Payment & Receive Your Acceptance Letter

When you receive a conditional / unconditional offer letter from the university, you’re only a few steps away to the finish line! If you receive a conditional offer letter, chances are you have to submit certain documents as requested by the university.

Next, you must be able to provide financial proof to show that you can cover the total fees stated in the offer letter. You must also submit all the remaining documents stated in your conditional offer letter and finally, pay the registration fee of approximately $300 and a deposit of $2,200.

Take note that the acceptance letter will not be released unless you complete the steps above.

2) Review Your Acceptance Letter & I-20

Once you get your acceptance letter, make sure to review all the information to ensure that everything is correct. The original copy of the I-20 document will also be sent directly to you, so you should confirm the recipient contact number and shipping address. The shipping can take up to five days or more.

3) Student Visa Application (F-1 Visa)

There’s no time to spare. You should hurry and book a visa appointment at the US Embassy in your area. Here’s a step-by step guide to help you with it.

4) Visa Interview – If You’re Prepared, You’re All Set!

An in-person interview is a common as part of the student visa application process.

Many of our students come to us full with worry, but our advice stays the same: always be prepared.

These tips can help nail your interview:

  • You must attend the interview. If you can’t make it, reschedule it ahead of time.
  • Think your answers through and reply with confidence and honesty. Don’t rush, you’ll end up stuttering!
  • The interviewer wants to see that you’re dead serious about studying in the US. To be convincing, be clear about your program, the documents you’ve provided, as well as your intentions and future plans of studying in the US.
  • Always speak in English. The Visa Official wants to know your proficiency level.
  • Clarify questions that you do not understand. Don’t just assume based on your understanding and give an inaccurate answer! Which brings to my next point..

5) Interview Questions To Expect

The most common questions are:

  • Self-introduction
  • Your education history
  • Your choice of study and university in the US
  • Program details, such as course dates and duration.

These questions may seem unimportant to you, but they help the interviewer determine if you’re a genuine student who plans to further their studies in the US.

Next, they will most likely ask about your financial circumstances. For example, the program fees, who is funding your education, and proof of your scholarship. Bring along financial documents to support your financial status.

Lastly, you should be able to demonstrate your understanding of living in the US as an international student, where your university and hostel is located, and how you will commute around the area.

6) Required Documents For The Interview

You must be able to provide the Visa official with a specific set of documents. Be sure to have all of these prepared before you attend the interview, or you will risk failing it before you even begun!

In general, you must have the following documents:

  • Original copy of the I-20 documents
  • Proof of payment
  • Completed non-immigrant visa application form (DS-160 form)
  • Acceptance letter from the university
  • Passport
  • Passport-sized photos
  • Transcripts and certificates (Translated if necessary)
  • Financial evidence
