Introduction to Architecture

Are you someone who loves to sketch and doodle in your free time? Are you fascinated with the design of the Petronas Twin Tower and dream of creating a structure like that one day?

If so, Architecture might be the course for you!

In a career where you are able to freely utilize your creativity, Architecture is one of the most promising fields to work in today. It’s a mixture of art and engineering science in designing buildings that are unique, functional and safe while providing a stable foundation for the inhabitants to reside in. No one wants to stay in a house that will collapse in heavy rain, despite how aesthetically pleasing it is!

This program isn’t just about learning how to design a building. It also involves the planning, surveying, and construction of the structure from start to finish. As an architecture student, you’ll learn how to use technical devices and design software to create buildings in 3D and shape them in different forms and spaces.

What are the skills needed?

Architecture is a fun course, but it can be demanding as well. To excel in this course, you’ll need certain skills.

Creativity and imagination: A fundamental part of architecture is designing and drawing process. You need to be able to visualize concepts and sketch them out on paper. Your designs need to be inspiring, as well as able to provide a safe and functional platform. To do this, you’ll need to be imaginative and think out of the box.

Ability to meet deadlines: Architecture is a course that requires you to adhere to strict deadlines. It is common for students to pull all-nighters in the studio and stay up late to finish putting the last pieces of their model together. It’s hard work, but incredibly rewarding when you see the results.

Presentation and communication skills: Part of architecture requires you to showcase and present your work. You need to be able to explain your ideas and thoughts clearly to your lecturers and classmates. This will prepare you to enter the professional industry when you have to showcase your design work to clients.
